Bike Nation Announces 2013 Rollout Plan for Downtown Los Angeles

Bike Nation_255 Bike Nation announced today its plans for its 2013 rollout of Los Angeles’ first major bike share program. The system will officially launch in Downtown in April 2013. Last week, the LA City Council unanimously passed a motion that directs staff to create a permit process for Bike Nation’s bike sharing stations to be placed in the public right of way. Bike Nation is currently working with the City for all necessary approval processes and permitting that will pave the way for the company to implement its privatized bike share business model. Unlike other North American bike share programs, Bike Nation is able to privately fund the bike sharing program without the requirement of any government funding or subsidies and will monetize the program through membership and usage, sponsorship and advertising. Bike Nation, OCTA and the City of Fullerton Announce Plans for a Pilot Bike Sharing Program

Fullerton Release Photo-01 Bike Nation announced today that it has won a contract from the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to develop a pilot bike share program in the City of Fullerton, CA. The $1.5 million OCTA contract will install a total of 165 bikes and 15 stations at a variety of locations within the City. In addition, Bike Nation has committed to co-invest in the program by adding up to 35 stations and 350 bikes to the Fullerton system, resulting in a potential bike share reach for Fullerton of 50 stations and 515 bikes. The Orange County-based company previously announced this year extensive privately-funded bike share programs in Los Angeles, Anaheim and Long Beach. Bike Nation Unveils Second Generation “Made In The USA” Bike

Bike Nation Gen 2 Bike Bike Nation, the first major bike share program in the country to be privately funded, unveiled today the unique design and technology behind its Gen 2 “Made in the USA” bikes, to be used at its previously announced bike share programs in Long Beach and Los Angeles. The bikes, made in the USA and to be assembled in Southern California, are chainless and feature active GPS technology and airless tires, helping reduce the need for on-road service. The kiosks are modular, portable, wirelessly connected and solar powered so that monitoring and load balancing is easily managed. [read article]

Bike Nation and the City of Long Beach Announce Plans for Bike Sharing Program

2.3 Cropped Bike Nation announced today with the City of Long Beach plans for the first bike sharing program in “America’s Most Bicycle-Friendly City.” The privately-funded program, approved unanimously by the Long Beach City Council at a council meeting yesterday, will include up to 250 kiosks and 2,500 bikes, with initial installations expected to begin in February of 2013 in downtown. Caron Butler: Community Ambassador

Clippers & BN-01 We are elated to announce that 2-time NBA All-Star and LA Clippers Forward, Caron Butler, has become a Community Ambassador and spokesperson for Bike Nation. Caron has been supporting bicycling since 2005 when he created Caron’s Bike Brigade which has donated over 2,500 bikes to youth six to 16 years old. Bike Nation Anaheim Community Launch

From Left: David Arquette, Navin Narang, Derek Fretheim, Councilmember Gail Eastman, Councilmember Kris Murray, Brad Barlow, and Supervisor Nelson Today at a special neighborhood event Bike Nation, the only Southern California-based bike sharing company, took to the streets at Center Street Promenade to open its first kiosk on the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Harbor Boulevard and put its signature bikes in the hands of local residents at its Anaheim Community Launch. The community-based event is a prelude to the company’s roll-out of 10 kiosks and 100 specially constructed bikes to be made available for rental to residents and visitors alike in late August. The festival featured free bike tune-ups, a bicycle agility course and an eclectic mix of food of music, along with free 30-day Bike Nation memberships to anyone signing up during its introductory period either at the event or online at their website. KTLA Bike Nation was proud to host Gayle Anderson of KTLA’s Morning News this morning to kick-off National Bike-to-Work Week as part of her “Get Moving May” series. Nearly 100 of Bike Nation’s neighbors came out to support us as Bike Nation CEO Navin Narang, Co-Managing Partner Brad Barlow and COO Derek Fretheim showed off the unique patented technology behind Bike Nation’s Made in the USA bikes and our easy use kiosks. We also gave Gayle a ride for a first-hand look at what thousands of Los Angeles and Anaheim residents and visitors will soon be enjoying in the coming months as Bike Nation rolls out the largest Bike Sharing program in the country. CicLAvia At the CicLAvia event in downtown Los Angeles today, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced plans for a bike sharing demonstration project in the City.
