How does Bike Nation work?

Bike Nation is designed for short, quick trips where users check out, ride, and return bikes from kiosks located in key areas. Before using Bike Nation you must purchase a membership. The membership gives you access to use the system; a 24-hour membership allows you to check out, ride, and return bikes for a 24-hour period. Having a single bike checked out for 24-hours is NOT bike sharing.

Once registered Bike Nation is simple!
  • Locate the Bike Nation station nearest you using our website, or kiosk station maps. If you are a casual Bike Nation member, insert your credit or debit card at any kiosk, and pick your desired bike. If you are an annual Bike Nation member simply tap your Bike Nation Membership Card at a dock with an available bicycle. When the green light flashes, pull the handlebars firmly toward you to release the bicycle.
  • Ride to class, commute to work, get some exercise, or just explore! The first 30 minutes of each Bike Nation trip are at no cost!
  • Once you’ve reached your destination or have finished riding you can return the bike at any station in the system. Just push the bike in the dock, wait for the light to turn green, and you're good to go!

How can I join Bike Nation?

At any Bike Nation kiosk, pedestrians can transform into cyclists and begin riding in under 90 seconds with only the swipe of a credit card and entry of an email address.

You can purchase both the 30-day and 1-year memberships here.

What is the Bike Nation Membership Card and how does it work?

The Bike Nation Membership Card is a card that is only issued to annual members. Each Membership Card is embedded with a unique Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip that is linked to a single member’s account. This card allows Bike Nation members the ability to bypass the kiosk and checkout directly at each dock and rent bikes at events with Bike Nation corrals without hassle in seconds!

To use the Membership Card, just walk up to any Bike Nation Station, find the bike that you’d like to ride, and tap your card on the disc located on the right side of the dock.

How do I choose which bicycle to check out from the Bike Nation kiosk?

Each Bike Nation bicycle is equipped with airless tires, a chainless drivetrain and an easily adjustable seatpost to provide the most comfortable and reliable bike to all members. All available bikes are good to go as they fit riders ranging from 5’0 to 6’5, but it never hurts to inspect the bike you will choose before taking it out of the dock.

What’s so special about the Bike Nation bicycle?

The Bike Nation Bicycle has been designed and tediously tested to be the most comfortable, safe, and reliable bike in bike sharing. It is packed full of features like airless tires, a chainless drivetrain and an easily adjustable seatpost that make it perfect for everyday riding.

What if I need to return a bike and a station is full? How do I find stations with empty docks?

The Bike Nation team does their best to keep bikes evenly balanced throughout the system, but during local events and peak hour traffic stations sometimes fill up quicker than we can rebalance. If you have a bike checked out and there are no empty docks at the station near your destination you can go to the kiosk, and use the station map to direct you to the nearest station with empty docks.

What if a bike I have checked out has a problem?

If a Bike Nation bike that you have checked out has an issue, becomes unsafe or unrideable, simply return it to any open dock in the system and press the red mechanics key with the wrench on the right side of the dock. This will alert our maintenance team that there is an issue with that bicycle and it will become unavailable for others to check out.

Is Bike Nation available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round?

Yes, Bike Nation is here to help you get around when others aren’t!

How much does it cost to join and use Bike Nation?
